minty fresh

Hey! Hey!

Do you remember this shabby white stool?  My mom found it months ago and it has been sitting in my garage waiting for some TLC.  It has a fun retro structure but basically looks like it was covered in primer…the seat cushion included.  I know, weird.

So the day finally came when the step stool got a fresh makeover…

I sanded the whole stool to even out the bad primer job.  And then primed again.  When I got to sanding the 2 steps, I found that some long forgotten blue paint was peaking out.  The more I sanded, the more blue, the more I loved.

I embraced the early blue and keep the steps distressed looking to show the true age and patina of the stool.

Don’t worry.  I poly’d the steps because I would assume there is lead paint in there.  It is all sealed in now – the blue, the white, the raw wood.  In fact I polyurethaned the entire piece when I was finished for easy cleaning.

The legs were painted with some leftover mint green paint and lightly distressed to match the heavily distressed steps.

I found the sweet fabric at Joann’s in the scrap bin.  I was looking for something navy to pull out the blue in the steps.  Plus the floral print had the green in there too. Win.  Win.  And a new cushion was born…

I sold this at Clover to someone who is going to use it in the laundry room.  Darling.  Did I mention that my mom wanted to keep it when she saw the end result?

Isn’t it cute how the steps fold up?

Now I’ve got to tell you that I have been knee deep in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and I am ob.sessed.  Had I used it on this stool, I would not have needed to prime.  Oh well.  Stay tuned for some of those projects.

Oh and don’t forget to enter to win the Poppies & Petals giveaway!
