moving on

Wow guys, the Brooklyn Flea Philly rocked yesterday!  The crowds, the music, the vintage goodness.  It was all amazing.  I love the market atmosphere.  I’m not going to lie, it is a ton of work to get out there and set up shop for one day.  In fact, it is a 12 hour day including set up and break down plus prep the day before.  But I love the scene and the energy that popup markets bring…not to mention the flexibility.

BK Flea Philly Americana

I love it so much so that we’re closing up the Brick & Mortar.

This was a tough decision considering how adorable the little shop is with all of its glorious hundred year old chicken coop character but it just makes sense at this point.  There’s just not enough time to utilize the building to its full potential.

Brick & Mortar vintage display

When we opened up shop a year ago, the only other venue we sold at was the seasonal Clover Market which still remains a favorite.  (Last market of the season is this Sunday from 10-5)

Since then Circa Dee has taken up space at The West End Garage in Cape May, NJ – then doubled that space.

A couple of months ago we also added Serendipity Shops of Doylestown to the list where we stock Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint.  Yes, you can still buy the paint there and I will still schedule milk paint workshops offsite.

And now Brooklyn Flea Philly is going to be a regular weekly market at the Piazza where we’ll set up shop from time to time.

Thank you to everyone that has supported Circa Dee Brick & Mortar over the past year.  I’ve met so many new vintage lovers and have had the opportunity to really get to know you.  I hope to continue seeing you out at the popups and co-ops when Circa Dee is in your neighborhood.  We’ve got Philly, the Shore, Bucks County & the Mainline covered!

Can’t wait to see where the road ahead takes Circa Dee next!

P.S.  The display bed pictured above is for sale.  It is actually a fold up cot that stores very well and opens up to a full size.  Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll give you a great deal!

open this weekend

Hey guys!  Circa Dee Brick & Mortar is OPEN this weekend.

Saturday & Sunday 12-4 – 1814 Valley Forge Road, Worcester, PA

Circa Dee: Brick & Mortar - featuring occassional sales & events

We won’t be open at all in May so stop in now to see what’s new and say hi!  I’ll be posting preview pics on facebook later this week.  Help us make room for all of the treasures we plan to bring back from Brimfield next month.  (we’re still looking for more pointers if you’re a seasoned Brimfieldian)

We’re also expecting a big shipment of Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint just in time for the weekend.

Speaking of milk paint, I’ll be doing a demo on Sunday evening at Serendipity Shops of Doylestown – our other local retailer.  Perhaps you want to see the paint mixed in person…

counting down

Just over one week until Spring’s first Clover Market!  Will I see you there?

Clover Market

I’m narrowing down the inventory that will make it to the April popup next Sunday, April 14th.  Have you seen anything here lately that you’d like me to bring?

Oh I’ve got an awesome little vintage medical cabinet that will definitely be in the mix.  It is so fresh that I haven’t even posted a pic yet but it will make a fabulous bar for someone.  Or a nightstand.  Or both.  I’m not judging if you have a bar in your bedroom.  Stay tuned!

By the way you can get a sneak peak and first dibs at what we’re bringing to Clover by stopping by

Brick & Mortar next Saturday, April 13th from 12-4.

What are you treasure hunting for this season?

new in the shop

Hi guys! I can feel it…spring.  It is so close!  It is so like me to always rush one season in and the other out.  With that said, we’ve been churning out a few projects here getting ready for the change of seasons.  As a result there are some new upcycled projects in the shop including this framed map.

Map of Europe

I love the mix of sophistication in the vintage gilded frame and playfulness in the color palette.  We took a tattered school map of Europe in the 90’s and fit it to size.  This would be so fun in a nursery or kid’s room.  I have also posted it on Etsy.

School Map of Europe

Speaking of etsy…our remaining cowboy boot inventory has been marked down and posted on Etsy.  Grab them at up to 20% off before it is flip-flop weather!

In the shop we are making room for the upcoming Easter Charity Photo Shoot with Mandy Keep Photography on March 9th.  Appointments are filling up!  If you are interested in having your little ones in for the shoot, email Mandy to schedule.  The cost is $40 and you will receive 10-15 electronic images.  100% of the proceeds will be donated to the National MS Society!

Charity Photoshoot Mar 9

Have I mentioned that we are now open every Thursday afternoon from 12-4 pm.  Yes, every single Thursday.  (oh except for April 4th because I’m on spring break. I know, sorry.)  So you don’t have to wait for our monthly events to stop in now.  We are always open by appointment as well.

And I’m excited to announce that we are planning a Spring Milk Paint Workshop Series!  It will be a 4-week hands on series taking place on Thursday mornings.  Email me if you would like to receive further information on the workshop series.

Milk Paint

And that concludes my updates for today.  Happy weekend everyone!

back in the shop

After being closed for most of January to work on the Home Show project, I am so excited to open up our Brick & Mortar for a February event.  This month’s occasional sale is “Cabin Fever”.

Cabin Fever

Are you feeling anything like I am right now…some serious cabin fever?  I want to get out and explore.    So come explore our new inventory with me.  It is complete with some fun rustic goodies like the deer antlers pictured above.  Plus what is left of the home show room will be for sale in the shop.  And I’ve been bitten by the mid-century bug lately so there are a few cool MCM treasures to be found by you.

I don’t like to play favorites but I am pretty smitten with the new Mason Shaker that we have in stock.  Manufactured right in Brooklyn, my friends.  You definitely need one!  It would also make a great shower gift.  Bridal, not baby.  That would just be cruel.

I hope to see you this week!

the king’s chair

So much to share today! Let’s get to it.

I have a chair before and after that I am just smitten with. Here is the finished vintage club chair.

Here is how we found it…destined for the dump and long forgotten.  We sat on it for awhile waiting for the right inspiration to strike.  Get it? Sat on it? Ha!  I wouldn’t literally sit on that thing in the before state.

club chair before

It was pretty bad! We called it the king’s chair in it’s horrendous, torn velvet upholstery.

The entire chair needed to be stripped inside and out but I knew it had potential.  The cushion was rebuilt and the chair reinforced.

I love the big, bulky shape.

And all of the details.  I painted the wood with ASCP Paris Grey and lightly distressed.  Then went over it with Egyptian Gold gilding wax to highlight the details.

I love how the gold glistens in the sunlight showing off the details of the ornate wood carvings.

Did you catch that upholstery?  It is a nice, nubby linen fabric made from hemp.  The perfect natural and neutral fabric to cozy up by the fireplace or for a casual beach house!  My upholsterer did a stellar job on this one – actually he does on every one.

And that pillow…super cool.  It is made from recycled tents!

I love how the king’s chair morphed into a sophisticated club chair fit for a queen.  The only problem is that I should have never moved it into my house for a photoshoot.  Because now I really want to keep it and that wasn’t the plan.  Somebody please take it off of my hands!

By the way, sneak peek of our holiday mantel in the photo above – more on that next week. Let’s just say that it is my favorite mantelscape yet!

And since we’re talking chairs today, I never did share a proper photo of the French settee from a little while back.  It is so regal yet can be toned down and playful with the right color scheme.

reupholstered French settee

And here is the before.  The fabric was never quite sturdy enough for a chair.  It was thin like cotton bed sheets so of course it tore.

French settee before

I chose a durable fabric by Waverly in a striped pattern that reminded me of antique ticking fabric. Love the double welting and French details.

French settee makeover

Baby got back!  The curves go all the way around.  This settee is a masterpiece from all angles!  It would be fabulous in an entryway or playful in a boy’s room.  Stately in a dressing room too.  I can go on…

French settee

The settee is for sale in my space at West End Garage in Cape May, NJ.

Speaking of West End, I just moved into a larger space last night. If you’re looking for me, I’m on the reverse side of where I was before. Double the space equals double the amount of Circa Dee treasures you can expect to find! The garage is open everyday now for the holidays.

And now for the public service announcement portion of this post…

Find Circa Dee at Union Stock – a popup next weekend in Manayunk featuring a collection of locally handmade goods and wares.  I’m very excited to be in the mix with this group of local artisans.  Click on the photo for the complete lineup.  I’ll be there for the Friday evening reception.  Hope to see you!

As for our very own Brick & Mortar, we are open for the next 3 weekends!  Come find some unique vintage and repurposed gifts and a little something for your home too.

And don’t forget to RSVP if you plan to come to Miss Mustard Seed’s book signing by emailing me, commenting or on the facebook event page.

And speaking of the book ‘Inspired You’, we have a winner…drumroll…Sharon K.!

Happy weekend!

small business saturday

Good morning and happy Small Business Saturday! This is my first year owning a shop for the holiday season. I am quite excited for today.  As a shopper, I’ve always liked to patronize small, local businesses. I love gifting locally made treasures as well.  Today is the day to recognize those businesses in your neighborhood!

Here are a few specials that we’re running in our Brick & Mortar shop. If you see something that you’re interested in, I may be able to ship it!  Just leave a comment and I will respond this weekend.  Otherwise be sure to support the local, small businesses in your neighborhood.  It really does make a difference.

This deal is already available in my online shop.

And here are a few cool new items we’ve just added to the shop that were made locally by other small businesses.  The NJ Shore totes were created by a local printmaker.  For every tote sold, $5 is donated to the Hurricane Sandy relief effort.

And of course we’ve stocked up on local favorite joeyfivecents one of a kind jewelry.  We now have rings and stud earrings in addition to wrap bracelets and word necklaces.

New to the shop are these awesome upcycled license plate cuffs!

We’ve also added some fresh winterberry and wreaths for holiday decorating – all grown locally.

There are a few sales not pictured like discount holiday cards by Poppies & Petals.  And we’ll be running 10% off all vintage jewelry.

We’re located at 1814 Valley Forge Road Worcester, PA (a Center Point Pond).  We’ll be celebrating Small Business Saturday with our neighboring shops at the pond!

Open 10-5 today.

Happy hunting!

harvest party preview

Hello there!  After taking a late summer break from our Brick & Mortar shop, I’ve been super busy gearing up for this weekend’s Harvest Party.  This is sure to be the best yet.  We’ll be greeting the first day of fall on Saturday.   The shop will be packed with the warmth and comforts that make this time of year so spectacular…fresh flowers, pumpkins, cozy blankets, door decor and vintage farmhouse style.

Joining us this month is Spotted Horse Textiles.  Speaking of vintage farmhouse style…theirs is amazing!  Spotted Horse Textiles specializes in upholstered antique furniture using authentic German and French grain sacks.

We’ll be featuring this stunning antique wing chair upholstered in a cow graphic grain sack and a coordinating grazing ram footstool.  This weekend only, we’ll be offering a special Harvest Party price on the duo.  In addition, lots of other antique goodies from Spotted Horse Textiles will be in store.

And of course we’ll be stocking some of our favorites like joefivecents one of a kind jewelry, our own mason jar soap dispensers and Open Eyes Press tea towels.

Harvest Party – Saturday & Sunday 10 am – 6 pm

1814 Valley Forge Road Worcester, PA (at Center Point Pond)

Our neighbors at The Frock Shoppe will be open as well!  I hear they’ve got some new fall frocks in store.  I can’t wait to check them out!  The Frock Shoppe is a charitable venture raising money for local causes through The Nottage Project.

For those of you waiting patiently for Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint to arrive, we’re told it will be shipped any day now.  Unfortunately it won’t be in stock for the Harvest Party but stay tuned!

And for my friends that are not local, I’ll be sure to post pictures and harvest styling ideas so you don’t miss out!  More projects coming next week…

lavender, clover & a harvest party

September is one of the reasons I love living in this part of the country.  (And October too.)  The cool evenings.  The brilliant blue skies and the hint of fall foliage.

And opening day at Clover Market!

On Saturday morning, we took an early drive out to New Hope and stopped at this beautiful lavender farm on the way.  I love how even Wilson took time to smell the lavender.

We also made a few new friends.  The resident llamas were very welcoming.

But seriously, the lavender.  Can’t you just smell it?

Then Sunday was all work.  And fun too.  As always, Clover Market did not disappoint.  I just love being a vendor at this seasonal antique/art/handmade/vintage market in Ardmore.  I get to see so many familiar faces, and new ones as well, in such a fun setting.  Thank you to those of you that stopped by and said hello!

If you missed Clover yesterday, the next market is October 14th.  Mark your calendar.  We’ll be there with new inventory.  I hear people drive 2-3 hours just to attend!  Yes, I’d agree that it’s that good.

But first we’re gearing up for next weekend’s Brick & Mortar Harvest Party!  There will be fresh, never before seen Circa Dee inventory in store.  Open 10-5 both Saturday and Sunday.  We’re located at 1814 Valley Forge Road in Worcester, PA.

See you soon!
