our wedding invitations

Hey guys! I can’t believe it is Thursday evening already in the middle of June. This week has flown by. In fact the past month has. Ryan and I have been married for just over a month now.

And I’ve barely given you any wedding details here on the blog yet! Shame on me.

That is about to change.

Get excited because you my friends are going to see every last vintage-lovin’ DIY detail throughout the summer. I am aiming to do a post a week highlighting the projects and details that antique junkies like us might find interesting when it comes to wedding planning.

Let’s start at the beginning shall we?

The invitation. It had a vintage spin for sure with none other than a blue mason jar as the solo image.  Come on did you expect anything else?

I conceptualized these 5-7 half folded invites in my sleep I think.  Once I had it worked out in waking hours, I pre-stamped and water colored all of those cute little flowering jars, pre-cut the cardstock and lace that would serve as the belly band holding all of the inserts.  Then I corralled some of my favorite crafty ladies to help me assemble and stuff about 90 of these dream invitations.

Yes, we are sitting in my dining room and that’s me in the stripes bossing everyone around.  Feel free to note how much the decor of the room resembles the invitations and in fact the whole wedding scheme.  I’m consistent like that.

So here’s what we were working with on that day back in February.

Lots of hands went into the final blue and green product.  I love how they turned out.  I think the foreshadowed the casual vintage vibe of the wedding.

Can’t wait to share another element of our vintage-style wedding next week!

live spring mantel

After my bridal shower, the house was in total disarray for a day or two.  It was great to find a new place for everything, purge some old hand-me-downs and do some Spring cleaning along the way.

With Spring cleaning, came a new Spring mantel (although it continues to snow here and stay in the 30’s…ho hum).  I have to admit that I halfheartedly put an Easter mantelscape together last week but I was totally uninspired by it…so I took it down before Easter even came.  And up went a simple scape consisting of live plants with our new painting as the focal.

I found inspiration in the painting’s color palette and went from there.  By the way, doesn’t mini Wilson look so much like real life Wilson?

Since spring has been so slow to show around here it is nice to have it on display right on the mantel, live plants and all.

These little ferns, succulents & baby tear’s in the galvanized buckets were also left from the shower.  I just love ’em.

It actually occurred to me that just about everything on this mantel was given to me at some point or another!  That’s why you should always shop around your home first when ready for a new look or vignette.  The props you need are probably already there.

spring/ easter mantel kalanchoe

The beautiful, blooming Kalanchoe was left over from a photo shoot a couple of weeks ago.  I used a few vintage canisters as planters.  That is actually a great use for an incomplete set of canisters or one where the lid is lost.  You know, put a plant in it!

This bottle was left over from an engagement gift we received last spring.  Once we finished the rhubarb alcohol (sold locally at Art in the Age) I couldn’t toss the bottle.  The graphics & label are too cool.

And this peacock feather was left over from another wedding.  Perfect in what else but a blue ball jar.

A subtle nod to Easter comes in the form of this wire chick.  Instead of eggs, she’s displaying ice blue vintage camera bulbs that once belonged to Ryan’s father.

And that is what is happening on the Spring mantel.  What’s on yours?  Did you go all out with Easter decor?

back in the shop

After being closed for most of January to work on the Home Show project, I am so excited to open up our Brick & Mortar for a February event.  This month’s occasional sale is “Cabin Fever”.

Cabin Fever

Are you feeling anything like I am right now…some serious cabin fever?  I want to get out and explore.    So come explore our new inventory with me.  It is complete with some fun rustic goodies like the deer antlers pictured above.  Plus what is left of the home show room will be for sale in the shop.  And I’ve been bitten by the mid-century bug lately so there are a few cool MCM treasures to be found by you.

I don’t like to play favorites but I am pretty smitten with the new Mason Shaker that we have in stock.  Manufactured right in Brooklyn, my friends.  You definitely need one!  It would also make a great shower gift.  Bridal, not baby.  That would just be cruel.

I hope to see you this week!
